GIA’s Volunteer Program

If you love gems and jewelry and enjoy sharing this passion, consider volunteering at GIA.

GIA is a “living museum.” Its Carlsbad campus is rich with one-of-a-kind gem and jewelry displays that are constantly changing. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to see it all from a unique perspective: the inside.

As a GIA volunteer, you can translate your knowledge and enthusiasm to the many thousands of visitors who tour the Institute each year.

Volunteer Positions
By joining the GIA Carlsbad volunteer program and donating your time, you serve as an ambassador of the Institute. We provide a complete volunteer training program that shows you how to present information, conduct tours and enhance each visitor’s experience.

Docent
As a docent, you welcome guests to GIA and guide them through the campus hallways and Museum Gallery exhibits. You also have the opportunity to assist with the GIA Junior Gemologist Program an interactive curriculum that introduces 4th through 12th grade children to gemology.

Museum Concierge
As a museum concierge, you greet guests and provide detailed information about GIA’s current exhibits in the Museum Gallery and Mikimoto Rotunda. You also share information about the Institute’s mission, history and services.
